Wahl Clipper Corporation’s Fade It Forward Program Awards Barber Scholarships to At-Risk St. Louis Youth

Wahl Clipper Corporation’s Professional division, social service organization Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, and local businesses Antonio’s Barber College and St. Charles Barber College are pleased to announce the awarding of scholarships to six new students as part of the Wahl Professional Fade it ForwardTM scholarship program. The event will take place on Monday, October 12th, at 10:30 a.m. at Urban League St. Louis Headquarters, 1408 North Kingshighway Boulevard, St. Louis, MO 63113. Information on the Fade It Forward TM program can be found here: https://wahlpro.com/education/fadeitforward/

For St. Louis, this is the first group of Fade It Forward™ students to go through the clipper
manufacturer’s philanthropic program and year two for the program in Chicago. Three of
the six St. Louis students will be attending barber school at St. Charles Barber College,
1510 Elm Street, St. Charles, MO 63301, while the other three students will be attending
school at Antonio’s Barber College, 6253 Natural Bridge Road, St. Louis, MO 63121. Although studying at different locations, all students will be going through a challenging program at their respective colleges. Before officially starting their path to becoming a barber, each student was paired with a hand-selected mentor, a barber in the St. Louis area, that helped guide and teach the students the importance of hard work and determination during a four-week mentorship.

“The Fade It Forward program is as much about supporting our at-risk youth as it is about helping them become professional barbers,” says Garland Fox, barber and Wahl
Education and Artistic Team (W.E.A.T.) member. “We’re fortunate to partner with Urban League - St. Louis as they help provide the ongoing support the students need as they progress through their barber education.”

For Fox, the creation of this philanthropic program is about giving back to the next generation, as he once was homeless, and credits becoming a barber as something that changed his life for the better. Fox’s inspiration and determination to help youth gain better lives is not only taking root in the St. Louis and Chicago areas, but the program plans to expand to Cleveland, OH in 2021.
