A New Legend is Born: WAHL Legend of Barbers 2022 Results

Earlier this year, the WAHL Legend of Barbers 2022 competition opened its gates to professional barbers, hairdressers and hair stylists from six Southeast Asian countries. After two preliminary stages, the representative of each country was chosen to compete in the finals: Noor Muhammad from Singapore, Irwan Shah from Malaysia, Solehudin Silehudin from Indonesia, Yodluck Chaemgrachang from Thailand, Tung Nguyen from Vietnam, and Christopher Dionisio from the Philippines.

On the 18th of October, these six astounding barbers gathered at SHOW DC, Bangkok, Thailand for the final showdown — where arcade games, booth for temporary tattoos, and a wide spread of food and beer lined the lively halls. Wahl’s Global Artistic Director, Simon Shaw from the UK, was also flown down to be the key judge for the event. 

Each professional performed the art of their craft live on stage for not just the esteemed panel of judges from Wahl, but a physical audience of 700 and over 1,000 viewers watching the WAHL Legend of Barbers livestream. There and then, they worked with a suite of the best Wahl barber shop tools and hairdresser supplies to deck out professional hair models in hairstyles they deem worthy. Contestants’ Chosen Styles for the Finals

During the final stage of WAHL Legend of Barbers 2022, the finalists were made to draw lots for the style they were to fulfil on-stage. The provided styles up for taking were: Nautical, Rocker, Athletic, Varsity, Gentleman, and Street, with the finalists having to closely follow their picked-out themes while creating a hairstyle most apt to their given hair model. 

Noor Muhammad from Singapore drew the lot for the Rocker look. Solehudin Silehudin from Indonesia was given Street, while Irwan Shah from Malaysia was given Gentlemen. Yodluck Chaemgrachang from Thailand had to create a Varsity aesthetic, and Tung Nguyen from Vietnam was conferred Athletic. Finally, Christopher Dionisio was granted the lot for Nautical. 

Under a strict time-limit of only 30 minutes, the finalists were pressed to achieve their desired hairstyle for the hair models they each attended to. The WAHL Legend of Barbers 2022 then continued with a fashion walk whereby the models were dressed according to their respective themes and paraded across the stage and runway for the judges to evaluate their new hairstyles. 

The Runner-Ups for WAHL Legend of Barbers 2022

Out of the six finalists, two walked away as runners-up for the prestigious competition this year:

The 2nd runner-up for WAHL Legend of Barbers 2022 is Solehudin Silehudin from Indonesia, with a total of 77.7 points. He won US$1,000 and a suite of premium Wahl products, including a 5-Star Magic Clip Cordless Hair Clipper, Detailer Li Cordless Trimmer, and 5-Star Finale Cordless Shaver. 

The 1st runner-up for WAHL Legend of Barbers 2022 is Tung Nguyen from Vietnam, with a total of 82.7 points. He won US$3,000 and a collection of premium Wahl products, including a 5-Star Magic Clip Cordless Hair Clipper, Detailer Li Cordless Trimmer, 5-Star Finale Cordless Shaver, and a 5-Star Barber Dryer.

The Winner for WAHL Legend of Barbers 2022

On the fateful day of the finals, crowned as the WAHL Legend of Barbers for 2022 was none other than Noor Muhammad from Singapore. Having drawn inspiration from the aesthetic of a biker taking off their helmet, Noor Muhammad created a look that any rocker could wear proudly: one that distinguishes itself by being calculatedly messy, rugged, and textured, while featuring clean tapers on the sides and back of the head. 

Noor Muhammad won an all-expenses-paid-for 6D5N trip to America, where he will visit the Wahl Clipper Headquarters at Sterling, Illinois; and a premium professional barber tool set consisting of the brand new 5-Star Legend Cordless, 5-Star Magic Clip Cordless Hair Clipper, Detailer Li Cordless Trimmer, 5-Star Finale Cordless Shaver, and 5-Star Barber Dryer from Wahl. Most importantly, the crowned legend has earned himself a one-year contract as a WAHL Educator.
